Pune Airport New Terminal Building Set to Open by April 15, Hopes for Improved Baggage Handling
The new terminal building of Pune airport is anticipated to commence flight operations by April 15, boasting five baggage conveyor belts. Aviation experts and travellers are optimistic about improved baggage handling efficiency in the new facility compared to the existing one, which often experiences chaotic situations during baggage collection. However, concerns have been raised about potential overcrowding and operational challenges, especially with the upcoming summer schedule.
Efforts are underway to expedite the opening of the terminal building, with various departments, including cargo and Customs, undergoing relocation. The in-line baggage check-in system is currently undergoing testing, subject to approval by the Bureau of Civil Aviation Security. While the target for operational readiness was initially set for April 1, a specific date remains uncertain, although airport authorities are striving to complete all necessary tasks promptly.
