Pune Battle Against Rising Garbage-Related Fires
The Pune fire brigade is grappling with a concerning surge in garbage-related fires, recording 11% more incidents last year compared to 2022. With over 245 incidents already reported this year until March, officials emphasise the need for citizens to take responsibility and ensure proper disposal of waste. Areas like Kalyani Nagar, Lohegaon, and Hadapsar are witnessing frequent fires, highlighting the urgency for sustained awareness campaigns and proactive measures to address the issue.
Despite efforts from authorities, including plans for awareness campaigns targeting residential complexes and commercial areas, challenges persist in waste segregation and disposal practices. The recurring fires, exacerbated by summer heat, underscore the necessity for long-term solutions and collaborative efforts between citizens and civic bodies to mitigate the risks associated with improper waste management.
