In a significant development, the Pune Cantonment Board's general body has given the green light to transfer approximately 3.5 acres (13,000 square meters) of land to the Maharashtra Railway Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (MahaRail) for the proposed Pune-Nashik semi-high-speed railway line project.
The land, including A-1 defence land parcels, currently held by the PCB and the Local Military Authority (LMA), will be transferred in exchange for MahaRail's commitment to carry out infrastructure projects worth ₹34 crore in the cantonment areas.
This decision, a joint venture between the state government and the railway ministry, aims to establish seamless connectivity between Pune and Nashik through a 235.15km semi-high-speed railway line with a speed potential of 200 km per hour, benefiting various industrial zones along the route. MahaRail has been granted work permission for this venture, with land in the Ghorpadi area earmarked for an elevated railway corridor. The move is set to enhance crucial pending infrastructure projects and revenue generation opportunities for the cantonment.
