The civic body in Pune is actively pursuing funding opportunities to address long-standing infrastructure projects, aiming to secure Rs 800 crore from both state and central governments. This funding will primarily target the installation of filtration plants, sewage treatment plants (STPs), and initiatives to clean and rejuvenate local lakes. With plans already in motion for several projects related to sewage treatment and solid waste management, the municipality has submitted proposals under schemes like the Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation (AMRUT) to access the necessary financial support.
In addition to upgrading existing STPs and constructing new ones, the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) intends to introduce advanced technologies to enhance the efficiency of older treatment facilities. Furthermore, water filtration plants are slated for development in areas like Parvati, Wadgaon, and Warje, while efforts to clean and maintain lakes such as Katraj, Pashan, and Jambhulwadi are also on the agenda. These endeavours align with the municipality's broader strategy outlined in the 2023-24 fiscal budget, which surpassed Rs 9,000 crore for the first time, reflecting a substantial increase in allocation compared to previous years.
