In the aftermath of a technical glitch and heavy web traffic that led to the crashing of the official website, the municipal authorities have successfully restored its functionality, enabling citizens to once again make online property tax payments. The untimely website crash, which occurred a day after the deadline, left citizens unable to avail the tax discount benefit available until July 31. The Pune Municipal Corporation's (PMC) IT department swiftly tackled the issue within a mere couple of hours, implementing necessary troubleshooting measures and continuous monitoring to avert future disruptions. The civic body, known for extending a 5 to 10% tax discount for prompt payments, had extended the deadline this year to July 31 due to a delay in bill distribution. However, a subsequent technical snag on Monday has compelled the civic administration to push the final payment date further to August 2, accommodating the demands of citizens and public representatives. As per PMC records, the current financial year, starting from April 1, 2023, has witnessed a commendable collection of approximately Rs 1,200 crore in property taxes.
