Pune's metro connectivity is poised for a significant expansion this year as officials of the Pune Metro project aim to wrap up work on the last two corridors by December. The new corridors, namely Ruby Hall Clinic to Ramwadi and Civil Court to Swargate, are set to extend the metro network from its existing 24 km to an impressive 33 km. Notably, these corridors offer distinct features – Ruby Hall Clinic to Ramwadi being an elevated route and Civil Court to Swargate an underground stretch. Anticipating the completion timeline, metro authorities project the elevated section to finalise by October, while the underground section's readiness is expected by December 2023.
This expansion comes on the heels of Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurating two freshly extended metro routes, namely Ruby Hall Clinic to Civil Court Metro Station and Civil Court to Phugewadi Metro Station. Commuters have responded positively to these inaugurations, reinforcing the city's appetite for enhanced public transportation. As of now, Pune Metro operates along the Vanaz to Ruby Hall Clinic via Civil Court Metro Station and Pimpri Chinchwad to Civil Court Metro Station routes. With the impending extension, Pune's metro system is poised to not only bridge key destinations but also cater to a broader spectrum of commuters, marking a significant step towards more efficient and accessible urban transit.
