Pune Metro Boosts Revenue Through Station Name Commercialization

03 Apr 2024

MahaMetro, the authority overseeing Pune's metro system, has adopted an innovative strategy to boost its revenue by commercialising the names of metro stations. Currently, six stations have been named after prominent companies and organisations, allowing MahaMetro to earn annual incomes ranging from 55 to 72 lakh rupees per station. By featuring these entities' names prominently at station entrances, including those like Phugewadi, Nal Stop, and Garware College, MahaMetro has effectively transformed its stations into advertising platforms, bolstering its revenue streams.

Furthermore, this initiative extends to upcoming stations such as Mandai, Budhwar Peth, and Khadki, underscoring MahaMetro's commitment to exploring non-passenger revenue avenues. With a focus on diversifying income sources and minimising reliance on passenger fares, MahaMetro is also considering advertising opportunities on metro trains. This strategic shift emphasises MahaMetro's dedication to ensuring the financial sustainability and operational efficiency of Pune's metro system.
