In a landmark move for public transport safety, Maha-Metro has procured an annual comprehensive insurance policy covering all passengers utilising Pune Metro lines 1 and 2. This initiative arrives amidst a notable surge in daily ridership, with over 70,000 commuters traversing these routes. The decision stemmed from a thorough risk assessment, addressing potential hazards faced by passengers during their Metro journeys. The policy encompasses coverage for accidents, disabilities, fatalities, and associated medical expenses arising from unforeseen events encountered during Metro travel.
Under this insurance scheme, Pune Metro has allocated a sum insured of ₹4 lakh for death and ₹2 lakh for permanent disability, extending protection to all passengers with valid tickets, passes, smart cards/QR codes, and permissions. Additionally, the policy includes a provision of ₹1 lakh cash coverage for burglary and theft across 24 metro stations. Effective from March 31, 2024, to March 30, 2025, this policy signifies a significant step towards ensuring the safety and well-being of Pune Metro commuters. Moreover, Maha-Metro has partnered with 28 city-based hospitals to facilitate medical treatment for injuries sustained during commute, covering both hospitalisation and outpatient care.
