The civic administration in Pune has initiated a drive to clear major encroachments along a 6km stretch between Bhairoba nullah junction and Gadital bus stand on the Pune-Solapur highway. This step aims to facilitate smoother vehicular movement by widening the road. The additional municipal commissioner, confirmed that prominent encroachments, including parked cars from a resale dealership near Fatima nagar and obstacles like a large tree and an old religious structure near Kalubai Chowk, will be relocated to alleviate traffic congestion. Plans also involve shifting the BRTS medians to create more road space and exploring public parking options beneath the Gadital flyover to address the lack of nearby parking areas.
Around 1.50 lakh daily commuters rely on this route according to PMPML, and the road enhancements are anticipated to make a noticeable difference in their daily travel. While challenges such as the removal of commercial setups encroaching on public spaces remain, the civic authorities intend to address these issues over the coming months to realize the vision of improved traffic flow and accessibility in the area.
