The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has announced an urgent plan to remove 14 missing road links and clear eight major traffic bottlenecks across 47 locations in the city. A joint meeting with the Pune Police is scheduled in the next two days to finalize the action plan. Additionally, 17 roads, along with 15 designated “ideal roads,” will undergo asphalting, widening, and encroachment removal to improve traffic flow. With congestion worsening across Pune, the Deputy Chief Minister and Guardian Minister have directed PMC, Pune Police, and the Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) to implement quick, cost-effective solutions within 100 days instead of waiting for long-term approvals and funding.
A survey conducted under the city’s Missing Link Project identified 30 crucial road gaps contributing to severe congestion. To address this, the PMC has proposed constructing new roads and widening existing ones to enhance connectivity. Clearing these missing links and bottlenecks will require an estimated ₹500 crore, for which PMC has sought state government funding. During a recent District Planning Committee meeting, PMC and Traffic Police officials presented a detailed report on traffic solutions, following which Pawar assured that government funds would be prioritized for these projects. He also instructed officials to begin feasible roadwork immediately to ensure completion within the 100-day timeframe.
