Punes Air Pollution Crisis Garbage Burning and Construction Activities Worsen Air Quality

16 Nov 2023

Air pollution in Pune has surged significantly over the past week, leading to growing health concerns among residents. The primary contributors to this increase include dust from ongoing construction activities, open burning of garbage, and emissions from firecrackers and vehicles.

The rising air pollution has resulted in difficulties in breathing, colds, coughs, eye irritation, burning sensations, and various other respiratory issues among the population. Both children and the elderly are grappling with bronchitis allergies.

In response to these health challenges, medical experts advise the public to mitigate the impact of air pollution by consistently wearing masks, practising frequent nasal washing, maintaining hydration, consuming fruits and vegetables, and adopting a healthy lifestyle. Moreover, incorporating air-purifying indoor plants can contribute to reducing air pollution.

Local residents recommend the implementation of stringent regulations on construction activities and garbage burning to effectively reduce and control pollution in the area.
