The Maharashtra Pollution Control Board (MPCB) has taken decisive action against air pollution violations, issuing closure notices to seven ready-mix concrete plants and legal notices or proposed directions to eight more across the district. The crackdown, initiated in early March, has resulted in the closure of six plants in Marunji, with one plant in Nande village also receiving a closure notice. Additionally, proposed directions or legal notices have been issued to seven plants in Marunji and one in Hinjewadi, urging them to address violations.
Residents in areas such as Tathawade, Nande, and Marunji have raised concerns about deteriorating air quality, prompting the MPCB to take action. Violations include inadequate barricading of emission areas and a lack of water sprinkling or chemical dust stabilising agents on the premises of ready-mix concrete plants. Earlier actions by the board included closure notices to four stone crushing units, show cause notices to six units, and proposed directions to eight units, highlighting the ongoing efforts to combat air pollution and protect public health.
