Residents Demand Safety Measures as Traffic Diversions Reshape Nagar Road

04 Apr 2025

Residents of Kalyani Nagar, Viman Nagar, Kharadi, and Chandannagar have raised concerns over pedestrian safety following the closure of right-turn diversions along Nagar Road. In response, the city traffic department has assured quick measures, including raised pedestrian paths, longer red signal durations, and deploying traffic wardens at key junctions. The department has also promised road repairs from Shree Hospital to the U-turn at Aga Khan Palace. These changes come after traffic signals were removed at major crossings to ease vehicular congestion, which initially caused confusion among residents.

During a meeting with the deputy commissioner of police (Traffic), residents requested the reopening of the right turn at Shastri Nagar Chowk, but officials maintained that right turns would remain closed till Kharadi to prevent congestion. While some residents acknowledged that the changes had improved travel time, they emphasized the need for safety enhancements. The Kalyani Nagar Residents Association has urged authorities to deploy officers during peak hours, and citizens have given the traffic department a month to reassess the situation before escalating their demands for reopening key junctions.
