Residents of Bhavani Peth Demand Action as Pune Main Road Becomes PMC Garbage Dumping Ground

10 Sep 2023

Residents of Dharamveer Daware Chowk in Bhavani Peth, Pune, are grappling with a severe garbage accumulation crisis on their main road, which ironically serves as the Pune Municipal Corporation's (PMC) designated garbage disposal site. This has created immense inconvenience for both vehicular and pedestrian traffic, accompanied by a noxious stench and an unsightly environment, blatantly infringing upon the citizens' fundamental right to live in a clean and healthy atmosphere. Despite their persistent efforts to address the issue, frustrated residents have encountered roadblocks, such as PMC's suggestion that residents contribute Rs. 100 each to pay for garbage removal, causing financial strain on some families. Moreover, PMC's own scrap collection vans are identified as the primary contributors to the mounting problem, making it imperative for the issue to be resolved promptly.

Amidst this dire situation, residents have turned to the media as a last resort, pleading for assistance in shedding light on their plight. In response to mounting public pressure, PMC's head of Solid Waste Management has assured residents that the matter will be investigated, and the pile of garbage will be removed. This glimmer of hope offers a ray of optimism to the beleaguered residents, as they anticipate a future where their neighborhood will regain its cleanliness, thereby ensuring a healthier and safer environment for the people of Bhavani Peth.
