Residents of Pune Cantonment have expressed frustration over the delayed response of the Pune Cantonment Board (PCB) in repairing roads damaged by heavy monsoon rains. Activists and locals, particularly from Ghorpadi and Pune Camp, have criticised the PCB for not initiating road repair work before the monsoon, leaving them to navigate potholed streets throughout the season. Despite the board floating a tender worth ₹3 crore for road repairs last week, residents feel the action comes too late, questioning why it wasn’t done earlier when the poor road conditions were already evident.
PCB officials have stated that work will begin in the first week of October, with priority given to severely affected roads like Canning Road, Kahun Road, and Coyaji Road. The board also shifted some blame to the Public Works Department (PWD) for failing to maintain stretches like Golibar Maidan Junction, where patchwork was deemed substandard. However, residents have demanded better planning and quality repairs, citing the PCBs lack of a contingency plan for road maintenance before the monsoon.
