Residents Sweat Through Frequent Power Outages

28 Apr 2024

As the summer heat intensifies, residents across various parts of the city are facing the brunt of unscheduled and prolonged power cuts. From Wakad to NIBM Road and Baner, citizens are experiencing hours-long outages, exacerbating their discomfort in the scorching weather. Despite complaints to the Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (MSEDCL), residents feel frustrated as their grievances seem to fall on deaf ears, with no immediate resolution in sight.

The surge in power demand, reaching up to 3,100MW compared to the usual 2,500MW, has strained the city's electrical infrastructure. MSEDCL attributes the outages to damaged cables caused by road digging works, although residents remain sceptical of this explanation. As frustrations mount, residents urge authorities to take swift action to address the recurring issue and ensure uninterrupted power supply during the sweltering summer months.
