The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) is actively addressing traffic congestion issues by constructing a 30-metre-wide riverside road alongside the Pune Metro line, stretching from Gunjan Chowk to Kalyani Nagar. This strategic development aims to alleviate traffic bottlenecks at Shastri Nagar Chowk and Wadgaonsheri Chowk on Ahmednagar Road. Once completed, the road will offer citizens a direct route from Gunjan Chowk to Wadgaon Sheri, bypassing the often congested Shastri Nagar and Wadgaon Sheri junctions. Maha Metro's approval to hand over the necessary land signals a collaborative effort to enhance Pune's transportation infrastructure.
The initiative responds to the demands of residents who regularly face traffic challenges while commuting from Pune Station, Khadki, and Vishrantwadi to Kalyani Nagar and Wadgaon Sheri. The PMC plans to finalise the remaining stretch within two months, providing a more efficient and less congested route for citizens travelling to key areas like Kalyani Nagar, Wadgaon Sheri, Mundhwa, and Viman Nagar. This comprehensive approach reflects the municipality's commitment to improving the city's traffic flow and enhancing connectivity for the benefit of Pune's residents.
