A series of traffic improvement measures, including underpasses, a bridge, and service road expansions, have been proposed to address congestion along the accident-prone Katraj-Dehu Road Bypass. The Union Minister of Road Transport recently approved Rs 300 crore for these projects, which will focus on key areas like Baner, Balewadi, Navale bridge, and Bhumkar Chowk to streamline traffic and accommodate the increasing vehicle population.
Local residents have long complained about the lack of proper road infrastructure, citing the need for better crossings and underpasses to ease daily commuting. The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC), and traffic police are collaborating to execute these plans, with surveys being conducted to finalise locations for underpasses and other improvements. Traffic police have also proposed banning heavy vehicles during peak hours to reduce jams and accidents along the bypass.
