The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) is gearing up to demolish the Sadhu Vaswani Bridge, connecting the Cantonment area to Koregaon Park.
Although this bridge is slated for demolition and a new one will be constructed, the process is expected to take more than two years. Currently, the bridge has only two lanes, leading to frequent traffic issues. Additionally, the bridge is quite old. Consequently, the PMC has decided to replace it with a four-lane flyover.
Prior to the demolition of the Sadhu Vaswani Bridge, the traffic police have been tasked with preparing a detailed traffic management plan and diversion strategy. Once the traffic plan is finalised, the demolition work will commence, and the construction of the new bridge is anticipated to be completed within two years of the project's initiation.
Currently, the design of the new bridge is being finalised to effectively manage the increasing traffic. Importantly, there will be ample space on both sides for the landing of bridge ramps, and no additional land will be required. The municipal administration has already appointed an agency for the construction work.
