The long-delayed construction of a service road near Katraj-Kondhwa Road is set to commence next month, following the Pune Municipal Corporation's (PMC) acquisition of 835 sqm of land from Bhushan Housing Society in Katraj. This service road is crucial for easing traffic congestion and will play a significant role in accelerating the work on the Katraj flyover. The government has allocated Rs 140 crore for land acquisition, and the PMC is in negotiations with remaining landowners to secure the necessary land. The service road, once completed, will allow the flyover's construction to proceed without further delays, with the new completion deadline set for January 2025.
The Katraj flyover, which aims to connect Navale Bridge and Katraj Road with Katraj-Kondhwa Road, is expected to significantly reduce traffic jams at Katraj Chowk. However, ongoing work and barricades have been causing traffic snarls in the area. The flyover's construction is part of a larger project to improve the Katraj-Kondhwa Road, which covers a 3 km stretch and involves various infrastructural upgrades, including an underpass and a flyover. Due to land constraints, the road width was reduced from 84 metres to 50 metres, with the state government approving Rs 200 crore for the project. While the PMC has already spent Rs 48 crore on the road's construction, it still requires additional land and resources to complete the project.
