Signal Free Zones Planned for Solapur and Ahmednagar Roads in Pune

08 May 2024

The Pune traffic police, led by senior officers including Additional Commissioner of Police and Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP-Traffic), have finalised plans to introduce signal-free routes on key stretches within the city. Among the targeted areas are sections along Pune-Ahmednagar Road between Parnakuti Chowk and Chandannagar Chowk, as well as the segment from Fatimanagar Chowk to Loni Kalbhor on Pune-Solapur Road. After careful study of various factors like punctures, road dividers, and traffic diversion points, the authorities aim to reroute vehicular flow, allowing for smoother traffic movement without the hindrance of traffic signals.

These efforts follow the successful implementation of similar measures at SPPU Chowk, where re-routing of vehicles has significantly improved traffic flow. The upcoming plan entails the removal of traffic lights at designated junctions, with vehicles directed into rotary movements at each chowk. This approach is expected to minimise congestion and reduce travel time during peak hours, benefiting motorists in both directions. Inspector affirmed that the new system will be rolled out in the coming days, aiming to alleviate traffic congestion and enhance the overall commuting experience for residents of Pune.
