The Maharashtra government has approved ₹1 crore for preparing the Alternative Analysis Report (AAR) and Detailed Project Report (DPR) for Pune Metro Phase-2, following the completion of Phase-1. The second phase will feature seven new metro extensions totaling 82.5 km, connecting various parts of the city, including Khadakwasla to Kharadi, Paudphata to Manikbaug, Ramwadi to Wagholi, and Vanaz to Chandni Chowk. The funding will be equally shared by the state and central governments, with the Union Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs covering 50% of the cost under the urban transport planning scheme.
The Pune Metro Phase-1 project, which consists of a 33.2 km network with two corridors—the Purple Line (north-south) and Aqua Line (east-west)—and 30 stations, was completed in stages, with the final segment becoming operational on November 29, 2024. The state and central governments have allocated a share for preparing the reports for the new metro extensions, aimed at expanding the city's public transportation infrastructure.
