Daily commuters are expressing frustration with the Khadki Cantonment Board (KCB) due to frequent traffic congestion and chaos caused by potholes on roads within the jurisdiction. Notably, Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Bazaar Road and the stretch under Holkar Bridge are plagued with large craters, forcing motorists to navigate through treacherous conditions, which worsen after rains when water obscures the potholes. KCB officials blame the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) for laying pipelines near Holkar water junction in July and failing to repair the roads properly, while PMC officials argue that KCB was responsible for the road repairs after the project.
The 5 km stretch from Gurudwara junction in Khadki Bazaar to Deccan College chowk, a major route for industrial vehicles, is particularly problematic. A software engineer and regular commuter highlighted the high volume of heavy vehicles at night and the resulting dangerous conditions due to poor road maintenance. Additionally, internal roads near Range Hills pockets and Khadki police station are also affected. Military personnel and defence civilians using these roads have voiced their anger over the lack of maintenance, with an army officer criticising the doubled commuting time and the absence of an effective road repair mechanism. Despite numerous complaints, the KCB chief executive officer has not responded.
