Traffic Diversions Cause Congestion in Pune and Koregaon Park

16 Feb 2024

Traffic diversions implemented on Sadhu Vaswani rail overbridge and Koregaon Park have resulted in congestion along Mangaldas Road and the Wadia College area. Regular commuters have reported increased travel times due to heavy traffic, primarily on stretches of Mangaldas Road and Bund Garden Road. While the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) plans to demolish and reconstruct the bridge, the current diversions are on a trial basis and will continue for the next few days. One-way traffic flow is permitted from Circuit House Chowk towards Blue Diamond Chowk, while vehicles travelling in the opposite direction must follow a diverted route via Mangaldas Road and Wadia College Chowk. Concerns have been raised about the potential exacerbation of traffic congestion with the full closure of the bridge, prompting calls for proactive traffic management strategies.

Meanwhile, commuters stress the importance of clear communication about alternative routes to alleviate traffic congestion. Traffic police officials have assured efforts to mitigate the impact of diversions by deploying additional personnel, adjusting traffic signal timings, and closely monitoring traffic flow. The PMC intends to commence bridge demolition once a comprehensive traffic management plan is finalised, underscoring the importance of coordinated efforts to minimise disruptions during construction activities.
