In preparation for the demolition of the existing two-lane Sadhu Vaswani rail overbridge in Koregaon Park and the subsequent construction of a new four-lane structure, city traffic police and PMC have implemented traffic diversions in the area. Under the new plan, one-way traffic is permitted on the bridge, with light vehicles allowed from Circuit House Chowk towards Blue Diamond Chowk, while those heading in the opposite direction must take a diverted route via Mangaldas Road-Wadia College Chowk. These diversions, introduced on an experimental basis, aim to alleviate congestion and will be adjusted based on feedback and monitoring of traffic flow.
To facilitate smooth vehicular movement, barricades have been installed, additional wardens deployed, and direction boards placed at key junctions. The revised plan comes after earlier diversions led to traffic congestion, prompting authorities to refine the strategy. Citizens have emphasised the importance of keeping traffic flowing and ensuring clear signage for motorists' convenience. The PMC assures that citizens' concerns, including the readiness of alternative routes, have been considered in the planning process.
