Relief is on the way for commuters using University Road as the city traffic police prepare to reopen the Range Hills Chowk-Shivajinagar stretch for vehicular traffic in the next few days. The ongoing Metro construction, which had led to traffic restrictions, is now in its final stages. Since last year, vehicles traveling from University Chowk to Shivajinagar have been rerouted via Sinchan Nagar Road and Agriculture College, causing longer travel times. Officials have confirmed that steps are being taken to reopen the road gradually over the next four to five days, with detailed plans being finalized to ensure a smooth transition.
The Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) is overseeing the construction of the Hinjawadi-Shivajinagar elevated Metro line along this stretch, with two stations planned between Range Hills Chowk and Shivaji Nagar. Additionally, a flyover is being built in the area, contributing to ongoing congestion. Regular commuters from Aundh, Baner, and Pashan have expressed frustration over the extended delays and rerouting, urging authorities to expedite the completion of Metro and flyover works. Many have also requested the removal of barricades from sections where construction has been completed or is nearing completion.
