Construction of a subway linking the Metro station and MSRTC bus terminus on Satara Road is nearing completion, with expectations for it to be operational by April. The subway, undertaken by Maha Metro, aims to alleviate traffic congestion at the Swargate junction (Jedhe Chowk). Currently, barricades are in place along Satara Road to facilitate the construction process, with one entry-exit point slated for the MSRTC terminus and another at the Metro station's concourse. Commuters, particularly those travelling to Satara from Swargate, anticipate the subway's completion eagerly, citing the present traffic situation as hazardous for pedestrians due to constant vehicular movement.
Concerns over chaotic traffic conditions, including haphazardly parked vehicles, wrong-way driving, and encroachments on footpaths, have been raised by commuters and members of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP). They emphasise the urgent need for the timely completion of construction works to provide relief to pedestrians and public transport users. Maha Metro officials assure ongoing coordination with MSRTC to expedite the project and anticipate the subway's benefits to extend beyond Metro commuters, offering a convenient passage for non-Metro travellers as well.
