The US Consulate in Mumbai announced plans to fund multiple solid waste management projects in Maharashtra, following the four-day TechCamp event held in Pune from September 24-27. The event brought together over 45 waste management experts, including technocrats, policymakers, and entrepreneurs, who worked to develop innovative solutions for urban waste challenges. The consulate will provide funding ranging from USD 2,500-5,000 for selected projects, which will focus on improving waste collection, recycling, and community awareness.
Organised in partnership with Symbiosis International (Deemed University) Centre for Waste Resource Management, ExploreiT, and the Climate Reality Project, TechCamp Pune aimed to address critical waste management issues. Participants presented ideas like AI platforms for accountability, biomimicry in toilets, and waste segregation systems for financial benefits. Selected projects will undergo further refinement, with pilot initiatives expected to launch in western Maharashtra under the supervision of the US Consulate and partnering organisations.
