Vacant Food Outlet Fire at Phoenix Marketcity Causes Afternoon Scare

A significant fire erupted at a vacant food outlet on the third floor of Phoenix Marketcity, a prominent mall in Viman Nagar, Pune, around 3:30 pm on Friday. Quick action led to the evacuation of approximately 2,500 visitors and 600 staff members, preventing any casualties. Firefighters, aided by five fire tenders and a snorkel from the PMC's fire brigade, swiftly contained the blaze, which emanated from burning wiring and furniture. The emergency response team efficiently evacuated occupants within 15 minutes, adhering to safety protocols, and no injuries were reported.

 

Despite causing commotion and temporary traffic disruption, the situation was managed with adequate police presence. Mall authorities emphasised their commitment to safety, having conducted regular fire safety drills and complied with all PMC fire norms. The mall, with over 300 retail outlets, 20 restaurants, and a large food court, typically records significant footfall on weekends. Witnesses recounted the evacuation process, highlighting the mall's prompt action to ensure visitor safety amidst the emergency.
