Additionally, people who own stalls and others are making the problem worse by throwing garbage on the roadside from Uttamnagar to Karve Road.
Residents of Warje have been consistently complaining about the unauthorized burning of garbage. Locals allege that workers from the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) are contributing to unhygienic conditions by burning the garbage near main highways and roads. This not only affects the residents but also poses a problem for people passing by.
Residents in Warje express concerns about garbage being burned whenever children arrive or leave school. People face difficulty breathing due to the smoke, creating an unpleasant situation. This poses a serious risk to children, increasing the likelihood of respiratory diseases.
Incidents of garbage burning are notably high in slum areas; the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) initially imposes fines on citizens found burning garbage on the streets.
PMC officials said, While we don't receive numerous complaints about garbage burning, recognizing its significance to residents, we are committed to addressing the issue. Regular fines are imposed on individuals engaged in burning garbage to enhance awareness. Our employees are held to a higher standard, and fines for them range from Rs 500-2,000.
