Commuters at the Old Octroi Naka in Warje staged a protest on Wednesday, demanding the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) to address the traffic congestion by constructing a flyover and allocating funds for the project in the municipal budget. They highlighted the challenges posed by heavy vehicle movement, traffic from the Pune-Mumbai highway, and bottlenecks, particularly at Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Chowk during peak hours. Residents expressed frustration over the lack of long-term planning, citing the PMC's failure to fulfil its promise of constructing a second flyover, despite assurances made a decade ago when the first one near Vandevi temple was built.
Protesters, including former corporator, emphasised the urgent need for a flyover to alleviate the traffic woes in the area. They criticised the absence of budgetary allocation for the project, raising doubts about the PMC's commitment to address the issue effectively. Residents stressed that only through the construction of a flyover can the longstanding traffic congestion problem at the Old Octroi Naka be resolved satisfactorily.
