Yerawada Metro Station Misses July Deadline, Expected to Open Soon

31 Jul 2024

The Yerawada Metro station will miss its expected July opening, according to officials from the Maharashtra Metro Rail Corporation Limited (Maha Metro). However, the station is anticipated to be operational within the next eight to ten days. The Commissioner of Metro Rail Safety (CMRS) recently conducted a final inspection, recommending minor provisions currently being implemented. Once completed, Metro trains will begin halting at Yerawada.

The delay has frustrated regular commuters, especially those working along Airport Road and Nagar Road. The Vanaz-Ramwadi elevated Metro route, which includes the Yerawada station, has been operational since March 2024. Services at Yerawada were initially suspended due to local objections regarding entry-exit points, necessitating a redesign. An unnamed Maha Metro official confirmed that redesign work is nearly complete and that the station should open shortly. Additionally, feeder bus services to nearby routes, including the airport, are being planned. Despite assurances, citizens remain irked by the delay, attributing it to poor communication between Metro authorities and the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC).
