The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has initiated the long-awaited water supply project for the Lohegaon-Wagholi areas, costing approximately Rs 230 crore, and slated for completion within the next two-and-a-half years. Two contractors have been appointed to lay 430 km of distribution and transmission lines and construct nine new overhead water tanks. The Bhama Askhed dam, which currently serves Wadgaonsheri and Chandannagar, will be the water source for this project.
The PMC solid waste management department has decided to allow private companies to manage the collection, transportation, and scientific processing of solid waste in the merged villages of Sus, Mhalunge, Bavdhan Budruk, and Kondhve Dhavde for three years. This decision comes after the state government integrated 11 villages with the PMC in 2017, followed by 23 more in 2021, increasing the waste management load by about 250 tonnes daily. Contractors will be penalized for any failure to handle the expected waste or provide necessary equipment, with penalties including fines and potential contract termination for repeated defaults.
Passengers at Pune Airport's new terminal building are facing significant inconvenience as they must walk to Aero Mall to catch a cab or auto-rickshaw, following the airport authorities' ban on these transport vehicles from entering the terminal premises. While personal cars are permitted for pick-up and drop-off, cabs and autos are fined ₹500 for entering the area, causing frustration among flyers who rely on these modes of transport.
