Many potholes have surfaced on the service road along the Tathawade-Punawale underground road, situated along the Mumbai-Bangalore highway. This deterioration in road conditions has significantly affected commuters, particularly those traveling to the Hinjawadi IT Park, resulting in severe traffic congestion. The situation has escalated to the extent that traversing a mere 100 meters now consumes approximately 20 to 25 minutes, causing considerable inconvenience to residents.
The PCMC commissioner and traffic police visited the Punawale underpass on Friday to assess the situation after citizens raised concerns about heavy traffic jams in the area over the past few days. Residents have been demanding a solution to the ongoing congestion. The commissioner noted that several issues have been identified, and the civic body is collaborating with the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) to implement a long-term solution, including widening the service road passing through PCMC limits on both sides.

State cabinet approved a 28-km tunnel project connecting Khadakwasla Dam and Phursungi to combat water scarcity and reduce leakage. The project aims to conserve 2.8 TMC of water, crucial during dry months, by preventing losses from evaporation and seepage. Constraints in building new dams and existing water allocations have necessitated this tunnel, which will flow by gravity, saving around 2.5 TMC of water. The project is a critical investment in Pune's water management, supporting the city’s growing population and addressing long-term water needs.
